September 2022

We spent the afternoon of September 13 at Bobbie’s home.  Mary and Betsy were absent for this meeting.  After sharing our quilt projects, we feasted on an apple tart and ice cream – so delicious we ate almost all of it.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, October 11 at Mary’s house at 1:30.  Deanna is soon on her way back to Texas for an extended stay and will miss our October meeting.

In November, Joan will be our hostess.

Deanna started us off as she needed to leave early for physical therapy to help with her trigger thumb.  She first showed her exquisite quilt using Kaffe stripes and shot cottons.

The back is composed of 2-3 gorgeous plaid fabrics.

Joan’s daughter recently gave her a yellow and blue printed handkerchief, and Joan intends to add fabric strips to border the handkerchief.  She plans to give the resulting wall hanging to her daughter.

Joan’s seventh and final paper pieced quilt is a beauty in pinks and greens.  She swears now it is her last EPP project.

Bobbie’s inspiration for her next magnum opus comes from magazine pictures of seeds and pods.

She’s going to use velvets, and we can’t wait to see how this project develops.

Mindy brought a lot to share.  Her EPP project is coming along.  This colorful endeavor, which will eventually be a piece of wall art, is composed of ¾” pieces.

She added a pinwheel border as the last step for this Round Robin piece.  We’re all looking forward to seeing how the piece she started turns out.

Mindy also shared photos from Sammie and John’s wedding as well as a photo of the newest round robin quilt she’s working on.

Arleen has been practicing quilting feathers.  Not very visible from the front of this piece composed from leftover mask fabric but we can see her excellent quilting from the back:

Arleen showed the inexpensive quilting gloves she discovered at the Daiso store in El Cerrito.

Arleen also provided a HELPFUL HINT:  she mentioned that she uses strips of fusible rather than stitching to hold batting pieces together when combining leftovers to make a larger usable batt.  Brilliant idea!

And finally, her finished top made from leftover Kaffe stripes.  Truly beautiful!

Marty shared this charming small quilt she made from her explorations with EBHQ's Chunk of the Month.

Marty put her 72 nine-patch blocks together on the diagonal.  She reported that the triangles along the sides were particularly difficult to size.

CURVY CHALLENGE RESULTS

Deanna’s response to the Curvy challenge is a lovely pinwheel.

Joan’s Curvy challenge isn’t quite finished, but the start features three curved strips with orange wool in the center.

Bobbie’s Curvy challenge is a graphic combo of black and white with a red binding.  She cleverly used bias tape for the narrow curves.

Mindy's Curvy challenge piece showcased a printed Halloween themed panel.  Her piece and Betsy’s complement each other.

Arleen brought her Curvy challenge with colorful fish to share again.

Marty brought back her Curvy challenge piece, based on a technique from an EBHQ workshop.  NOTE:  last month’s report was incorrect – this is not the project from that workshop but a second one.

Despite missing our meeting, Mary and Betsy submitted photos of their challenge projects so we could view them along with the ones brought to the meeting.  Mary's is first:

Betsy's Fall color scheme features a steampunk vibe:

Sandy’s Curvy challenge started as a series of curved strips.  She wasn’t thrilled with the look and ended up with two pillow covers after some chopping and rearranging.  The Curvy-ness is no longer primary but she’s a lot happier with the result.
