August 2022

How can it be August already?!  We spent the afternoon of August 9 at Marty’s.  It was great to see her as she has missed our last two meetings.  Mindy and Betsy were absent for this meeting and didn't get to enjoy Arleen’s delicious retro dessert – pineapple upside down cake.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 13 at Bobbie’s house at 1:30, and Mary has already volunteered her house for the October meeting.

A gentle reminder:  deadline for our “curvy” challenge pieces is September 13.  If you've already shared your piece, please bring it in September so we can see them all together.

Though she's missed several QT meetings, Marty has been busy.  She started us off with another beautiful shirt.

Marty’s rainbow lattice is now finished and was much admired.

Marty also shared a completed baby quilt.  The combo of colored checkerboards with a whimsical print of critters on a white background is charming, and her use of decorative stitching in the quilting is admirable!

Marty’s final share was her curvy challenge piece, a beautiful finish from an EBHQ workshop some time ago.

Arleen has once again totally redone her piece using her leftover Kaffe stripes [as well as some donated by Betsy].  The large triangles are now large hexagons.  Do you think she’s finally done with the design?

Sandy shared six pillowcases she recently made.  Choosing the fabrics was the most fun.

Joan has quilted her large queen sized quilt composed of Kaffe florals.

The finished quilt is gorgeous, and the back is a beautiful combination of fabrics from the stash of one of the quilters in her Washington state group.

Joan shared the catalog from the Faith Ringgold exhibit currently on display at the de Young.  And she and Rich have recently discovered that the one letter missing from the Gold Rush collection they’ve donated to the Bancroft Library has been located.  It’s here in California in a collection of dead letters [undelivered and unopened mail] someone amassed.

Mary has put together another charming baby quilt, this one featuring flamingos in a beautiful color palette.

Mary is currently creating original block designs for a quilt for one of her grandsons.  So far she has a shield and a thunderbolt.

Bobbie gives each grandchild a quilt when they graduate from high school and leave home.  She has put together a beautiful design for her grandson that uses fabric he chose.  It’s gorgeous.

Deanna has been in Texas helping care for two grandchildren while their father is away on business.  She shared photos of the small quilts she helped the grandchildren and their two similar-aged cousins put together.  The kids look like they had a great time.  Deanna's grandchildren, Emmett and Reese, are the blondes.
