June 2022

We spent a lovely afternoon at Deanna’s on June 14.  Marty and Mindy were AWOL and missed out on Deanna’s yummy dessert – a delicious chocolate cake from a Test Kitchen recipe but Deanna warned us not to ask for the complicated recipe which used many bowls.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, July 12, at Joan’s where we’ll be able to admire her new fence.

Joan spent Tuesday morning hosting the inaugural EBHQ Tuesday morning open quilting and reported on an unpleasant encounter with a would-be attendee who became upset when she learned her daughter couldn’t accompany her.

Joan also gave a brief report on her 55th anniversary train trip to Chicago.

Deanna had a busy month.  She started us off with her beautiful finished project that uses a lovely panel featuring birds and flowers.

She also completed a children’s quilt using a cute print on the front and a lovely ombre fabric from her stash for the back.

Deanna combined 4 seasonal panels with fabrics from her stash to create another lovely children’s quilt donation.

Finally, Deanna shared her make for our “curvy” challenge.  It features curved piecing that makes a perfect circle, rickrack, and a background with a curvy design.

Sandy shared a collaged journal cover she created out of scraps.

Arlene also shared her “curvy” challenge piece.  She created a very interesting curved design but had the bad luck to have the wool batting beard through both the front and back when she laundered it.

Arlene created this charming small quilt and used an interesting fabric from Bay Quilts for the backing.

Arlene’s latest magnum opus is finished!  Her original design really shows off the Kaffe stripes and the backing is a beautiful print.

Mary took out the lemurs she’d cleverly quilted into this baby quilt showing a sloth and inserted a beautiful leaf design.  This is really a winner!

Mary also designed and sewed a giraffe quilt using a photo she saw online as inspiration.

Her “curvy” challenge piece is based on a wooden panel she saw in the window of an art gallery while walking one day.

Betsy’s been busy.  She added the borders to Evie’s third quilt top.  It will be backed with Cuddle.  Sue Fox is going to do the quilting and has offered Evie the opportunity to help.  Needless to say, the girl is excited!

Betsy’s English paper pieced star blocks look fabulous appliqued to this chaotic striped fabric.

And last but not least, Betsy’s embarking on another ½” paper piecing project!

Bobbi shared the design and fabrics her grandson has picked for the quilt she’ll make for him.

Her quilt of beautiful original design blocks that incorporate fabric from some of her favorite Liberty of London blouses is back from being quilted by Hello Stitch.  Gorgeous!

The back features leftover blocks and fabrics and results in a two-sided quilt.

Bobbi looks pretty pleased with her results!

Joan reported not being happy with her finished Kaffe Fasset flower quilt top [the common project from this year’s annual gathering with her quilter friends in Washington], but we all raved about this glorious riot of colorful prints, many of which were new to some of us.  She seemed a little happier when we finished.

Joan has completed, including skillfully free motion quilting, the Charley Harper quilt made with fabrics her daughter gave her.
