March 2022

The group, minus Mindy who was home babysitting Vawnie, met at Betsy’s house and were treated to 3 desserts:  apricot and raspberry Hamantaschen as well as a delicious lemon cake.  Betsy also debuted her new Keurig to the group and provided us with delicious coffee.  Sandy was kind enough to run the machine as Betsy hasn't yet done so.

We continued the discussion about changing our meeting day so Sandy can avoid driving home through Friday night traffic.  The second Tuesday of the month at 1:30pm seems to work for everyone, so our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 12 at 1:30pm at Mary’s house.

Mary suggested it’s time for a new creative challenge for our group.  We decided to go with a word that each of us can use as inspiration, as we did for one of our earliest challenges when we made pieces based on the word “wings.”  A word will be chosen at our April meeting, at which time we’ll decide on a due date for the project.  So, come prepared to write your word on a piece of paper.  All suggestions will go into a bag and one will be drawn from the group.  Each piece can be up to 80” in total outside dimensions.

Bobbie has been busy with all the paperwork involved in settling Roger’s estate.  Her experience is a good reminder of the importance of having a credit history of your own.

Betsy's amazing EPP composition of 1/2" hexagon pieces is finished and beautifully bordered in purple.

She also finished piecing her top for the Roberta Horton tribute exhibit at PIQF this fall.

Betsy's newest project is another EPP endeavor.  This time she's using larger hexies and is creating a flower garden wreath.  The bright colors glow against the background composed of a variety of white and off-white fabrics.

Joan has something new in the works that she’ll share with us in April.  In the meantime, she’s decided against her initial plan for some Charley Harper fabrics and used the meeting time for ripping out.

Mary is becoming a master machine quilter and shared her finished heart quilt as well as 2 donation quilts she quilted.

Arleen’s latest blocks are now complete and sewn into a stunning top.  How does she come up with these ideas?!

Arlene also shared the pile of fabric she ended up with after taking apart her sister’s muumuu.  We can’t wait to see what she does with this unusual fabric.

Deanna joins Mary as an inspiring machine quilter.  She has completed her latest one block wonder, this one for her daughter-in-law’s mother.  It’s stunning!

Marty’s been on a pillow case kick, first making a stack with fabrics from kits Edy Brady put together.   She then pulled fabrics from her stash and made two more.

Marty has also finished the back and top for the rainbow lattice quilt we saw a photo of last month.  The back could easily serve as the top of a second quilt, and the rainbow lattice is stunning.  Well done!

Sandy shared results of her recent ice dying experiment which successfully used previously soda-soaked fabrics and dyes of an unknown age.

Marty has recently been diagnosed with Raynaud’s syndrome, which results in a bluish discoloration of her fingers.  She mentioned that her fingertips are sometimes insensitive, most problematically when she’s cooking.  Betsy offered her exactly what is needed--silicone oven gloves!
