July 2022

We spent a lovely afternoon at Joan’s on July 12th.  Marty and Betsy were AWOL and missed out on Sandy's yummy dessert – a delicious lemon pound cake made with yogurt and oil and topped with strawberries and blueberries.  Not a crumb was left.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, August 9 at Marty's house at 1:30.

Mary brought two quilts made by Betsy who couldn't be there.  Betsy finished hand piecing her EPP quilt titled "Homage to Grandmother's Flower Garden" (pattern by Katja Marek).  So much to admire:  the gorgeous colorful blossoms and the interesting background composed of a variety of light neutral fabrics arranged to echo garden tiles.

Betsy's quilt for the Roberta Horton special exhibit at PIQF this coming October is back from being quilted by Sue Fox and has been bound and labeled.

The back is pieced of leftover fabrics from the quilt top.

Mary brought her colorful and clever giraffe quilt which is quilted and bound.

Betsy enlarged the giraffe and acacia patterns for Mary who used them for her quilting design.

Mary also shared a Community Quilt that she quilted and bound.

Arleen is changing direction on one of her "using up the Kaffe scraps" quilts.  She is taking some of the large triangles apart and plans to reassemble the pieces in a different setting using more solids.  She is also combining striped Kaffe fabric into colorful irregular shaped chunks.  Who knows what the end result will be but we will look forward to seeing what she comes up with!

Arleen created a new response to the "curvy" challenge to replace the curvy quilt that bearded when laundered.  Ever resourceful, she used the scraps from the new quilt to create a second quilt. Together they make a charming pair.

Mindy has been busy EPPing with two different sized flowered hexagons.

Mindy has also been working on a number of round robin projects.  She shared photos of two of them on her tablet.

Her third round robin started with a fox that was a paper pieced pattern from 3rdStoryWorkshop.  Mindy added the outermost border.

While Bobbie didn't have any quilt to share, we want to share this picture of her and her daughter.

Joan has been distracted with her book project but expects to get back to quilting soon.

Deanna has been in Texas prepping her new home there.  She shared a purchased quilt that she will hang behind a new sofa.

Sandy has spent the past month reading.
